Goodbye,
This week, a dear old man passed away. He was 81 years old and a jolly fellow! He was always happy and always prepared with a joke whenever I would greet him at church. I have enjoyed lunch dates with him and his wife (when I would run into them while doing errands, they are sweet enough to invite me). I have blushed at his giving away of any of his grandkids to me and my cousin for...
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined to me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and he set my feet upon a rock, making my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord (psalm 40:1-3)

The Week in Review:
Due to busyness of schedule, I have not been able to type up my blog entries. I queue blog entries most of the time so that they can be properly edited and read before they are published. However, due to many contributing reasons, I was not able to type up entries in awhile. I have a phone that I can use to update my blog, but I find more comfort in using a keyboard to type...

And our heart song sings
weheartit.com
What is your heart song? Is worship to Christ only what we sing in church or what is being played in Christian radio?
I think Christ-centered worship can be expressed through song, dance, joyful noises and thanksgiving! Worship is also something that is not limited to church or to singing, but is something that is integrated in every aspect of our lives. It is a lifestyle.
It is...

Little Surprises
Today was my birthday, I am another year older and apparently, am too old because I have two numbers in my age (Thank you to one of my students for reminding me of that last semester). It was my first day at work today and I was up at 6am (and it will be a five day work week for me this semester. Two jobs and full time school plus people. *makes O.o face but I’m up for the challenge).

Human Myths: The Self-Made Man
Why, hello Mr. Scrooge Mcduck (source: Wikipedia)
Our society and generation is very much attracted to mythologies. It is a way of humans to express ideas of the world around us. It also presents varying world views. An example of this is the Myth of the Self-Made Man who was introduced by a man named Frederick Douglass (a key person in American History) and this construct is very much rooted...
In false love your aim is to use the other person to fulfill your happiness. Your love is conditional: You give it only as long as the person is affirming you and meeting your needs. And it’s nonvulnerable: You hold back so that you can cut your losses if necessary.
But in true love, your aim is to spend yourself and use yourself for the happiness of the other, because your greatest joy is that...

Book Review: Unveiling the Kings of Israel
When I was younger, I loved reading through the Old Testament because I found it very rich in archaeological history. Imagine the surprise I receive upon receiving an opportunity to review “Unveiling the Kings of Israel” took me on a very happy trip to the times of the Bible side by side with Scriptural accounts and archaeological evidence. It features twenty chapters that are rich in text and...

Book Review: How do we Know that the Bible is true
How do we know the Bible is true? Volume 1 is a book that is compiled and edited by Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge that seeks to equip seeking Christians to answer questions that address the legitimacy of the Word of God. It is becoming quite common for different fields of study that try to find evidence that can disprove events and people stated in the Bible in a way to question the character of God...

First followers and spirit-led servanthood: a book...
Leonard Sweet’s book titled, “I am a follower: the way, truth, and life of following Jesus” stems from Christ’s call to his disciples to ‘follow me’. This call was meant to change the lives of each of the individuals called in such a way that becomes infectious. He explores the degradation of the call by the leadership myths, the separation of leaders and their flock and the so...

How deep is depth?
One of the words that I always encounter as of late is Depth, which is defined by a downward movement or something that is sourced from the inside out.
“Sourced from the inside out”, now that sounds interesting. It does make you wonder if it is something we can work for, or something we can only pray for and ultimately receive? I tried to think of certain qualities that can show and...

Redefining Beauty
book-rain.com
What is Beauty?
There are several definitions of the word, beauty. All around us we are also captivated by many faces of beauty. We grow up believing it’s in the style of our hair, the makeup on our face, the swing of our hips, the size of our clothes and it is largely influenced by people who tell us so.
In order to understand beauty, we must first look at the Creator...

Fathers, don't provoke your children (interesting...
There are two texts in the New Testament that directly address fathers: Ephesians 6:4 and Colossians 3:21. Interestingly, they begin the same way: “Fathers, do not provoke your children.”
This pair of verses underscores the most serious threat a Christian dad can pose to his kids: to provoke or irritate them to the point of discouragement. As a dad, I have found two paths I am prone to walk ...

Image: The Reader by Franconard
Note to Self: I must avoid all book sales, thrift stores, libraries until I have finished the stack of books that lie around in my room. Also, it is imperative to arrange such organization of books so that said library does not appear dingy nor uninspired.
Yes, I’m a dork today. O.o
Does anybody have ideas on how to store more books in a room? I just...

Of Mission fields and "lowly" callings
Misconception: Mission fields are always overseas in an area with impoverished people and some level of scarcity as a problem.
In our daily travels as Christians, we sometimes come to a point in our lives where we experience two things: a feeling of a “lower” calling and/or a mission-envy. We see people our age or older grabbing their backpacks and heading to a different country to...

Scandalous Generosity: A Book Review of John...
Beautiful Outlaw is a book that discusses the personality of Jesus Christ in an effort to distinguish who He is from what religion has made Him to be: a 2-dimensional character that most people find hard to relate to. The rationale for this is that a meaningful relationship with our Savior comes from the effort to discover who He really is, which involves reading the Bible on how He was when He...

All of my yearnings for bigger and better, for anything other than Christ himself - nailed to that same cross.

Happiness is found in no other
First of, let me start this post by saying, Happy New year to everyone! I hope you were able to have a great one! I spent it with some friends from church by playing some games and having some awesome apple cider until the countdown. I also got to spend it with a sister-in-Christ until I think 2 or 3 am (yawn the years are taking its toll on me;) ). Then, the next day was time with my extended...
